Resources:
The FHS library is a learning lab with the goal of supporting the curriculum needs of students and teachers as well as promoting reading for pleasure. Special emphasis is placed on research skills. Lessons developed are based on collaboration with classroom teachers. Topics include Alabama Virtual Library, databases versus websites, citing resources, web page evaluation, copyright, smart searching, credible and reliable sources on the Internet, plagiarism, easy online citing of sources, saving documents safely, using the online card catalog, locating print resources, and utilizing reference materials.
Reading is promoted through book talks, the New Books Shelf, magazine collection, contests, and displays. Collection development is influenced by student requests, teacher requests, curriculum alignment, collection needs, and new release recommendations.
