Fairhope High is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This authorization grants Fairhope High School the authority to offer the 11th and 12th grade program called the "Diploma Programme". In addition, 9th and 10th grade students may apply for the preparation program which will lead to a more successful Diploma Programm experience in the 11th and 12th grade.
Diploma students complete exams in six subject areas. Additionally, they complete an Extended Essay (EE) and a CAS Program of Creativity, Action, and Service activities. If successful, the student will be granted the prestigious IB Diploma. Students who pass only a portion of the exams will be granted IB Certificates in the subjects for which they passed the exam criteria. IB Certificates can be thought of as equivalent to AP Exam grades of 3-5 depending on the IB exam score. The International Baccalaureate is a challenging alternative that will help students gain access to the world's leading universities. The program is internationally recognized and offered in 91 countries. Many universities give preference to IB diploma holders and some will grant first-year university credits to graduates. Students who are awarded an IB diploma will also earn an Alabama High School diploma at the same time. Parent Meetings and FIBA The parents of students in the IB program meet on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the FHS library. The minutes for these meetings can be found on the FIBA page located on the school's website.
